ATI releases April Catalyst driver update.

ATI today published version 6.4 of its Catalyst driver software. The new version brings Linux support to graphics cards with X1300, X1600, X1800 and X1900 graphics processors. According to ATI there are also changes in the Avivo video processing engine to improve video playback in standard definition (SD). As for the performance-related enhancements, ATI says that users should expect to see a 4.9% increase in 3DMark06 scores, up to 2% in Call of Duty 2 with (non-Crossfire) X1900 and X1800 cards, almost 4% in Half Life 2 with (non-Crossfire) X1900 configurations, up to 3% in Far Cry (X1900, non-Crossfire) as well as up to 5% in Unreal Tournament 2004 on all Radeon X1x00 non-Crossfire configurations. The "Chuck" patch, which enables high dynamic range lighting (HDR) with anti-aliasing (AA) in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, is not part of Catalyst 6.4. The new driver can be downloaded from ATI"s website.
