Crytek May Leave Germany.

Thanks to a possible ban on action games, Crytek may be forced to leave Germany. German website PC Games recently spoke with Crytek"s president and co-founder Cevat Yerli regarding Germany"s threat to ban action games. The country is currently focusing on action titles that involve violent acts against humans and/or humanoid characters. If enforced, not only will retail outlets be banned from selling games that fall into that classification, but developers within Germany will no longer be able to create those types of games. "A ban on action games in Germany is concerning us because it is essentially like banning the German artists that create them," Yerli told PC Games Germany. "If the German creative community can"t effectively participate in one of the most important cultural mediums of our future, we will be forced to relocate to other countries. "The current political discussion will deprive German talent of its place on the global game development stage, and deprive German consumers of entertainment that is considered safe and fun around the world," he added. According to Gamesindustry.biz, German officials wanted to implement the ban before the federal elections in September, however an online petition directed against the ban have put those plans on hold. German rule dictates that petitions must reach over 50,000 signatures and be submitted to the Bundestag in less than six weeks in order to be considered. Because the petition acquired 67,000 signatures, it now must be read and discussed in parliament.
