Intel sheds light on 2005 desktop strategy.

Intel"s products for the digital home and digital office in 2005 will give consumers and IT managers more capabilities than just raw performance, and the company plans to highlight those products as it did with its Centrino mobile technology, Intel executives say. During a presentation for financial analysts in New York that also was webcast, Intel President and Chief Operating Officer Paul Otellini promised that Intel learned a great deal during a tumultuous 2004, when the company tore up its road map for desktop and server processors after realizing that its planned high-frequency single-core products would be too difficult to manufacture in volume. Earlier this year, Intel canceled two single-core desktop and server designs and announced plans to accelerate the development of dual-core processors. (pcworld.com)

Intel launches first dual-core Xeon processor, challenges AMD's Opteron.
San Francisco (CA) - "Paxville" is Intel"s first shot in the volume server and workstation segment: The new processor, in its core a version of the Pentium D 800 series, will go head-to-head with AMD"s dual-core Opteron, so far the only dual-core option for servers and workstations. Intel announced that it will use aggressive pricing to push Paxville into the market.

Taunton (MA) - An allegedly text messaging driver has been charged in the hit and run death of a Taunton Massachusetts teenager. At approximately 12:30 AM on December 27th, 31-year-old Craig Bigos was driving his Ford Explorer and hit a 13-year-old boy who was walking along the side of the road. Bots are registering user accounts on thousands of phpBB forums across the Internet, raising concerns that the bot"s authors are laying the groundwork for mass exploitation down the road. The activity of a bot named FuntKlakow was discussed in a Digg thread Sunday, with many forum owners confirming that FuntKlakow had created accounts and even posted simplistic messages.
