Sign Up for Star Wars: The Old Republic Beta.

LucasArts and BioWare are now accepting applications for the Star Wars: The Old Republic beta test. Gamers wanting to get a taste of BioWare"s latest foray into the Star Wars universe can now slap on a bib and pull out the fork and spoon. After reports that BioWare and LucasArts might open up the gates to Star Wars: The Old Republic, both companies officially announced earlier today that they are now accepting sign-ups for the MMORPG"s upcoming beta test. However, according to this FAQ, there"s no set date of when the beta will actually begin. To sign up, fans need to head here. However, at the time of this writing, the site was overloaded and required a bit of tender loving care from the server administrators. "We are making adjustments to the site due to the overwhelming response to the testing announcement," the page reads. "Please be patient and check back later. We estimate that the site will be back up in the next few hours." The press release distributed earlier today said that there are limited slots, and beta testers will be chosen from members of The Old Republic community; interested gamers will need to set up an account to quality. BioWare and LucasArts said that they will begin the selection process "once we feel we are ready for testers," and will contact the selected applicants via email. "Testing will be an ongoing process, and spots are limited, so people need to sign up early to give them the best possible chance of getting selected," BioWare said. Developed for the PC using BioWare Austin"s HeroEngine, the upcoming MMORPG doesn"t have an estimated street date. The Old Republic storyline will take place more than 3,500 years before the six Star Wars movies.

Vaporware 2006: Few surprises.
Wired today released its annual Vaporware list and if you"ve been somewhat interested in tech there may be few surprises. Among the winners are the games Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl and Spore as well as GT4 for PSP, the mobile applications Skype for Symbian and TivoToGo for Mac as well as general candidates such as "the" iPod killer and SED TVs.
